Armed with knowledge and a diverse skill set you think you are ready to conquer the world. Think again.
As you dive into adulthood, we want you to have a happy, fulfilling, and meaningful life. But before you go chase your dreams we’d like you to consider our Top Tips for College Freshmen.
1. Learn to cook.
Not only will you save a ton of money, people who cook tend to be healthier. The Freshman Fifteen IS in fact a real thing.
2. Study Hard.
A lot of us got away with not studying in high school, but less can do so in college. Try to prepare yourself before labs and lectures. Read ahead, ask questions, and use your professor’s scheduled office hours. Remember, you are paying for your education, take it seriously.
3. Be Smart.
We do not mean book smart here. Don’t do anything illegal. One “little” felony could change your life.
4. Be Money Savvy
Things cost money. We know this sounds stupid but it’s true. You will spend a little here and there, but then suddenly you realize your bank account is empty.
Additionally, take time to understand credit and personal finances. Want something? Save money for it. And start making little payments on your student loan immediately. You will thank me four years from now.
5. Make a Difference
Think about how your actions can positively affect someone’s life. No matter how hard it gets, the majority of the time it’s best to try and be good to another person, (even if they don’t deserve it). If you are more fortunate than others, it’s better to build a longer table than a taller fence.
Ok. Now take a deep breath. You totally deserve it. A lot of kids don’t make it as far as you just did, just don’t get too comfortable, you have a long road ahead of you, but we hope this helps that first step off the starting block. Congratulations.
