We purchase crayons, sharpen pencils, pack backpacks and send our kids off to expand their knowledge during yet another school year. We may find ourselves wiping away tears or even letting out a sigh of relief as we wave goodbye on that first day of school. Our children spend the first two weeks brushing up on the past year’s curriculum to set them up for success in the year to come.
They shouldn’t be the only ones to go through a back to school ritual. Sharpen your pencils, folks, because we need to make our Business Back to School checklist!
- Organize your email inbox: How many emails are in your inbox? 500? 1,000? 2,000??? No more neglecting your email organization. It is time to clean it up! In addition to the amazing feeling of having everything organized, keeping your inbox clean and tidy is great for clients. Create a unique label and folder for each client you serve. Immediately when you receive an email, label it, reply to it, and put it in it’s designated folder. Your goal should be to have a clear inbox by the end of each day, but if you’re not able to get to them all, make sure that unread e-mails are the first ones you take care of the next day.
- Organize your files: Digitally or physically, creating a system for all of your business and client folders is imperative. You most likely have a system in place but do you follow it consistently? If you have a pile of documents and files you’re waiting to organize, now is your opportunity to start fresh. Take the time to look at your filing system critically and honestly. No more excuses, it is time to execute!
- Update your website: Your website should always be up to date. All team members should be represented, prices should be current, but most of all, your messaging needs to express who you are as a business right now, not five years ago. Keeping your website current is an excellent way to build your confidence, and it also lets your clients know that you care about your business!
What else would you add to the list? What tasks do you keep moving to the bottom of your checklist? We have all been there, don’t worry. It is important to remember that everything that will help your company and clients deserves to get done. Get into the back to school spirit and start checking off those items, ensuring that you’re always organized and ready to do your best.
